Speaking quickly to the people before the scatter to do particular things on the vessel began "I want to make sure you all understand that I was cautious in who I accepted to come along, especially because I wanted to know I could trust you to make decisions. Instead of asking for permission, please just state what you feel should be done and do so. As long as it's not going to bring danger on the party, I trust you all to use your particular skills to gather information or make choices."
Watching the ascent toward the crow's nest, Naia looked up only so long as there wasn't a view of Woten's war skirt above her. Though Emma and Seti seemed in deep thought over everything, she would assist the hands on the desk until Seti was prepared to work with the creatures off the ship. As the others started moving and as Seti approached the ship's side, the woman took a moment to confer with the captain. "It appears we are taking the South-west avenue, Captain Marko. Slow ahead forward." face twisting wryly as she was trying to make the commands clear enough, she hadn't been on enough ships however and felt an impostor. She took her post by Seti and kept a wary eye on the water before the ship from her vantage point. Gripping the hilt of her sword as they advanced forth with the direction from the two aloft.
The South-West pass was probably the straighter of the pair, anyways. Less weaving and obvious hazard. Between Rei and Woten calling out directions - the louder, deeper voice of the berserker better for communicating over the noise of the ship, and of the waves breaking on the rocks - they could navigate the group into the pass without any significant difficulty.
Seti's communication was.. not as successful as he hoped. There were no immediate responses, mostly because he was trying to yell over all of the noise, as well as into water. It wasn't until after they had already navigated the Lady Defiler into the pass that he heard the squawks and clicks of a beluga whale, extremely panicked.
"Swim back. Death. Deat-" the sound was abruptly replaced with squawks of agony, then... silence.
"Ummm...okay, Shamus! Go down below...the deck and find the stuff we need, while I...get everything ready. We need a couple socks or pillowcases -- the bigger and cleaner the better -- one horn, a bucket or pot, some ice..." It's hard to say what all of those things have to do with each other. Regardless of their commonality, Emma goes about painting...something-or-another on the deck: some sort of spell circle. At least she isn't painting with her own blood, right? "Okay, so...Naaaia! Three options: put everyone in an anti-sleep state of heightened...awareness so hopefully we can see through the mist, so like...everyone will be high on coffee for a while, or we can try to displace the mist and...hope the wind doesn't blow us off-course with the mist, or..um...we can just try to make the ship fly for a bit! Shamus and I can probably get it airborne for...oh, five or ten minutes?" At which point both of them would probably collapse from exhaustion, but details!
It was difficult to hear what all was going on down on deck from way up in the Crow's Nest. Between the creaking of the ship and the wind whipping around her sensitive ears she just couldn't pick up much other than garbled speech. The scribing of a magic circle caught her attention briefly however, and almost distracted her from a large rock that loomed out suddenly from the edge of the mist. "Right! Right!" She bellowed out, narrowly avoiding the water hazard. She gave a sheepish smile to those below and then refocused her efforts on getting them through safely. No more distractions!
Unlike his companion in the crow's nest, Woten's eyes could not pierce though the mist/illusion. His mind kept telling him it was there. The sound below blended in with each other to him. If he focused he could make out things here and there but that would pull attention from his task.
Along with he do bellowing voice, the Berserker was adding a sing-song quality to his voice, at least when he could. Shouting out "Right! Right!" at the top of his lungs and in worried tone was hard to sound lyrical.
He was going to say something to Rei after his shouting of direction but noticed a change in posture, or maybe it was demeanor, in her and held the comment back. Expecting a hard turn of the ship, the Northland er gripped what he could tightly to secure himself to the ship, be it a rope he tied himself off with previously or his arm. Once he was sure he wrapped an arm around Rei like a cross strap and pulled her back tightly to him tightly. "Brace yourself." was whispered.
"Oh no...Poor thing..." Seti seems heartbroken. Of course, the feeling of loss is quickly replaced with one of worry. "...Guys, there was a whale down there. It told me to swim back, that there was death ahead--but then it stopped, abruptly. Something killed it. It seems like there's something lurking around underneath us that's strong enough to kill a whale...I'm not saying we should turn back, but Marko? You may want to make sure those cannons are loaded and at the ready, just in case." He murmured a quiet prayer for the spirit of the whale, hoping it would find rest in the next life. In a happy sea in the Eternal wilds, somewhere.
Frowned at the words from Seti as well as the choices being offered by Emma. At the very least, no matter how little she was able to speak in the aggressive tones of her father or go bashing people's faces into things in reflection of his legacy, she wasn't slow to make a choice "Make the ship fly, Emma." speaking briskly and cupping her hands about her mouth "Hold tight up there." though making the call to carry on "Keep on course, but hold on." Striding close enough to inform the captain that their party was going to make his defunct airship fly again and reinforcing Seti's words. Having winced at just the sound of the whale and not knowing the danger part of things, the woman prepared.
"Captain Marko, this ship has lifelines, yes?" he hadn't lost them in a shot game of cards or something she hoped.
"Guns ain't going to do us any good here. And I couldn't well enough turn us about if I wanted. Vipers are fast and maneuverable in the sky... but at sea, they suffer the same limits as any larger seaborne vessel," namely, that turning wasn't a fast process. Though the captain nodded to Naia. "Lifelines, and I have about three suicide sleds left still working," presumably, like the rest of the ship, the others had fallen into a state of disrepair.
Meanwhile, Rei and Woten, from their vantage in the crow's nest saw something, thanks to their positioning more than their ability to penetrate the mist. The water ahead of them was... rippling? No, no. That wasn't quite right. It was.. like an independent current within the pass was.. beginning to twist?
Rei had never seen a whirlpool before, but something about the moving current didn't sit well with her. As she understood it currents typically flowed in ONE direction. She looked up at Woten and tried to describe what she was seeing. "There's... something out there. It's twisting the water. Maybe something under the surface? I can't tell." She made a little circular gesture with her finger as she spoke. Hopefully the Barbarian had encountered such phenomenon before.
As Naia shouted up Rei glanced down at her and nodded, then grabbed onto any anchored ropes. Maybe they saw it too.

Woten had not seen what Rei was describing and what he was seeing before. He had heard about whirlpools in his travels here and there but until now he'd not seen one. Doing what he could to secure them both up high in the crow's nest he leaned down over the side a little, just enough so he could shout directly down to the others. "CURRENT CHANGE AHEAD! CIRCULAR MOTION!" He felt that condensed Rei's words and what he saw enough to get the point across, hopefully. The warning to hang on had been given ahead of this but not a why and even so with their vantage point he felt they probably didn't see the looming whirlpool in front of them. He was wondering now what else would have made Naia call out like that. His gut feeling was telling him something was wrong Maybe one of the monstrous sea creatures were aware of them now. "This promises to get ugly quick." Speaking normally now to Rei.
If they survived maybe he could learn the proper word for whatever is changing the current in the water.
