For the purpose of balance, Woten seated in the middle of the sled since he was likely one of the heavier pay members by far. Cloak and axe were collected and worn now. Icy blue eyes also focused out to the approaching shoreline. "Undead are likely." he said to Rei though his tone said he was sure there were other threats. May wish to stick to something more silent than those guns. Undead are attracted to noise." A small bit of knowledge learned during his time in Ometta.
He didn't bother reaching forward to console Rowan, that may rock the boat unnecessary. Instead he'd level his gaze to the one time sparring partner. "she will be fine." said to echo Naia's own words.
Once to the Rocky show line he'd be among the last to step off, again thinking of the boat's balance. Taking a dip in these icy waters could result in a frozen death. In the marching order of things, the Berserker would take up the rear guard.

Thankfully, for Shamus and Emma, if they needed to catch up later there were still 2 functional suicide sleds aboard the Defiler. The small boarding ships - which were actually in relatively good condition compared to the rest of the vessel - were sturdy, and meant to transport Shar`Vaire troops onto enemy airships over short distances, and as such were at little risk of going off balance with this small group boarding. Potnik, one of Marko’s crewmen - dressed in black slacks and a slightly haggard red overcoat - ferried them over the shallows, at least capable of manning the miniature ether-boost drive that propelled the small boromandite-plated vessel.
When they landed on the rocky shore, the landing party could see little in the way of humanoid activity, and what there was seemed long enough ago that it was probably irrelevant. At least, on first inspection. Seti was a little wiser to such things, the scout he was. Though hard to pick up at first glance, there seemed to be a suspicious lack of mosses and lichens on a great number of rocks towards a streambed running through a ravine. Further, he could see that the water in the stream was a little too dirtied to be from such a rocky terrain.
Rei further noted what looked like a patch of green in the distance, down the same ravine. Or.. was it a trick of the eyes? It was hard to say. The first she looked, she could see it, but the closer she tried to examine, the more it seemed that her eyes had been playing tricks on her, or perhaps the light.
There was also the dock that they spotted from the ship - a haggard thing, long in disrepair. The planks of the dock proper were long rotted, and looked as if they might collapse if the wind picked up too much. Thankfully, the barrier islands prevented much wind from touching the mainland. A cobblestone structure sat aside the docks, the clay tile roof broken, with holes littering the surface of it, tin eaves hanging precariously. Certainly, this was a place not attended for a great many years.

"Hrm...Looks like people have been through here. Recently, too. The moss and lichen are worn away on the rocks, and the stream...Seems more like it's dirtied from boots, clothes and the likes, rather than natural causes. Something was here before us. Couldn't have been too long ago, either." Rowan had flapped over to join the rest of the group, having been dissuaded from his bapping by Naia. Seti, for his part, began to inspect the rocks and the stream more closely for signs of what might have removed the moss and lichen. How heavily was the area treaded? Was there anything that might have been left behind, or overlooked?

Set's words were all the Northlander needed to retrieve his large axe from his back. Instead of gripping it in both hands though he shouldered it and held onto the bone shaft with one hand. The other hand reached up to his beard and squeezes, cracking the beard-icicles that were forming around his face before wiping them away. stance shifted slightly to be wider and he was looking out over the horizon of the island before them, surveying the land and structures before them. There wasn't much else to do for him. Seti revealed they were not alone on this isle and while he didn't suspect anyone to attack them right now, he wasn't going to be caught unprepared to strike back if he had too. "Can you tell how recently Seti? Hours? Days?"

Once on land, the woman managed to not kiss the ground she stepped on and proclaim to never step aboard a boat ever again, there was at least a temporary cessation of anxiety. Thanking the red clothed man for getting them safely to shore. Taking stock of her surroundings when they landed she was pleased that Seti searched about immediately and listened. Regarding the structure nearby.
"The information that Sentis provided me is that there is a castle on the island inhabited by the lone Shei we seek. So I think we are going to find our course is likely to lead us inland. However, with the mist and the rough journey getting to the island poses, there isn't a great deal more to go on than that scrying had been prevented. If we can find a path, that would be the most useful, but keep your eyes open. Any signs really should be helpful in trying to determine the location of the castle.. if it exists." speaking to the party at large, though she took some time to look over what Seti had found "I fine it heartening, actually, that there are signs of recent movement. Hopefully it means the person that inhabits the island is still present. Let us begin by looking for a trail that leads further into the island." nodding to Woten's questions as well, it would be helpful to know how recently there had been passage.
Stepping a little closer to the structure that was there on the 'beach' which was not a beach. While the others assembled themselves, the woman moved to inspect the clay tiled hut. While she didn't draw her sword immediately, her hand was on the hilt as she inspected the structure.

Rei blinked as the mirage in the distance caught her eye. It was tricky, even for a skilled illusionist, to discern truth from falsehood when relying on one's eyes and she was still a novice illusionist at best. "I... I think there may be something further down the ravine. Possibly hidden under more layers of illusion. This guy really doesn't want to be found."
The warning against using her guns bothered her. It was all she had other than her illusions, and they were nigh useless against undead.

Upon closer inspection, Seti determined that the lichen and moss scraped off of the rocks was not actually made by footsteps. It was all too neat, too clean. It was hard to tell at all, really, that any person had done it, almost appearing as if there should have been nothing there at all. If he were to guess, it was scraped off by some manner of knife or scraping tool meant to harvest it.
There were other signs, too, subtle ones that suggested some manner of scout inhabited this place. Namely, that there were no tracks, but.. vague signs of tracks and other signs of passage being obfuscated. These signs too, all lay about the bed of the stream that lead up the narrow ravine that marked the way deeper into the island, in the direction of the visual distortion that Rei had indicated.
Naia's examination of the small shelter offered little. She peered in the windows, and there were no real signs of habitation. This location had been abandoned, most likely, though within there were signs of previous occupation - things left behind. A ratty old overcoat draped over a chair, filthy and bleached by sun and weather. A small book, laying on the floor beside the chair, with pages long yellowed and curling at the edges of the leather binding. Little more was in the room, aside from some long rusted out tools - both those used in repair, and in navigation, such as a sextent.

Rei decided to scout ahead a bit, taking advantage of the stealthy nature of her kin and bolstering it with an illusion of her own. Not quite true invisibility, just an aura of 'mundane' so that anyone not among her current companions who looks in her direction would see what they expected to see. She moved forward down the ravine cautiously. Anyone who did not wish company quite as vehemently as the person who lived on this island did would likely have set up traps or alarms of some kind, she reasoned. She kept her eyes peeled for those as she walked, and would point them out to her fellow scout if she noticed any.

Had opened her mouth to ask Rei to come over and take a look at the structure, if there was illusion at work elsewhere it might be worth an effort. Though Rei was scouting and that also was a need. Instead the knight looked for an easy way in to the building, to retrieve the sextant and book if she could find a door.
As they gathered and reviewed the landing place, the knight would put her best efforts toward collecting the objects she'd found of interest, but she did not wish to tarry too long if they had at least the suggestion of a direction to go. "We should make our way toward the interior of the island, so the direction of the ravine seems as good a place as any." Once she had put her efforts to retrieving the objects, unless something unforeseen happened, she would move back to the others. "Let's move that way, so Rei has our support at her back." Helping with Emma if necessary and making toward the ravine.

"...Hrm. We're definitely not alone here. This moss wasn't just rubbed off, it was harvested. And moreover--somebody here was trying to cover their tracks. Pretty well, too. Whoever got here before us is a scout of some kind. Couldn't tell you of what faith, though. Might be an enemy, might be somebody whose goals align with ours. Either way, we should be careful. They might have left that shelter in a hurry, by the looks of it. Maybe conditions got bad, and they had to beat a hasty retreat?"
He moves up alongside Rei, but he's less focused on the traps than the animal life. Was there ANYTHING alive around here? Noises, croaks, anything? Or was it just...eerily silent?
