NOTE: Armor Rating is the total percentage to be subtracted from an enemy attacker's chance of hitting your character. Whenever new armor or enchantments are used, this percentage should always be reviewed. It is also important to include this total percentage in Random Encounters, Quests and GM Events to ensure a fair resolve.

Max AR and MD is determined based on the rank of the character, their skill roll, and what primary and secondary materials they have decided to use.  Exceeding this limit may only be permitted on a masterwork roll.

Max Enhancement Bonuses are applied above and beyond the set max limits on stats, but can only apply to either AR or MD.  In some rare cases, this might also be applied to reduce the Skill Penalty of the armor.  This can be achieved by rune-forging, enchanting, or using superior materials when crafting.  A masterwork roll may allow this cap to be surpassed to allow a superior material or enchantment to utilize its full bonus.

Skill Penalty applies when someone is wearing any armor aside from Light.  It reduces, due to the armor’s bulk, the chance that a character will be able to successfully execute any of a number of certain proficiencies and skills.  This includes Evasion checks, Stealth rolls, and some Thief’s Skills, as well as physical proficiencies such as Acrobatics, Tracing, Dancing, etc.  Ultimately, when this applies will be GM discretion.  This penalty is applied only once, and only for the heaviest piece of armor the character is wearing.

Armor bonuses do however stack, so if a character has a -25% armor value gauntlet and a -25% armor value bracer, they tally up to -50% armor value. This also goes for other pieces of armor, accessories and jewelry a character may attain throughout their adventuring career.
